Hay in a Day - Part 2
Building a rack of loose hay -- demonstrated by Faye Vido. The grass that was mown in the morning, spread and raked over to dry during the day, and consolidated before the evening dew. The hay usually stays on this rack only long enough to finish the curing process, before the hay is moved into the barn for storage, although we sometimes leave them in the field all season.

Is this a joke?? Not quite. The clip is meant as a satire challenging to the modern "brush blade mentality". Thus we used a very light blade (370 gm. at 65 cm., made by FALCI of Italy) and a homemade willow snath weighing 1 1/2 lbs. Consolidating rows of dry, loose hay into piles in a manner that most people haven't seen. This demo shows part of late hay harvest on a pasture which was grazed several times that season. The leftovers, though sparse and mostly short, are being made into winter's feed.

I did this,got stung by hornet on ankle. There are small gray hornets nests all over my field this year. They are down in the grass and weeds, little grey balls (not down in dirt). Ihave never seen so many before.

It is important to look sexy and have your hair down when you work in the field full of dust, dirt, and insects. Also, killing your back like this at a young age ensures no hay pushing in your older age.

This reminds me of being a kid in the 70s I had just gotten a pony and I had to get up to have to feed him for the winter we didn't have a hay baler so this is how we got the hay I was the one on top of the truck packing it down.
